Carolyn Norton Schmalenberger

Carolyn Norton Schmalenberger grew up on the Norton Marina property on Broad Creek in Deltaville surrounded by the family business of boat building, boat service, and boat sales. Carolyn attended Appalachian State University in Boone, NC and obtained a BS in Special Education K-12 with emphasis on Emotional Disturbances. After college, Carolyn and husband, Ken moved to Deltaville in 1983 to work in the family boat business in Yacht Sales. Carolyn and Ken purchased the business in 1995. When not at work, Carolyn’s hobbies include snow skiing, music, reading, and sailing. Recently, Carolyn completed Yoga Instructor Certification. Ken Schmalenberger
Co-Owner, VP & Treasurer of Norton Yacht Sales
Ken Schmalenberger’s love of boats began on Medford Lake, NJ where he spent his childhood. At the start of his teen years, Ken’s family moved to Charlotte and Greensboro, NC where Ken graduated from Grimsley High. From there, Ken attended Appalachian State University and graduated with a degree in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing. In 1983, Ken moved to Deltaville, VA to begin a career in yacht sales with Norton’s Marina, wife Carolyn’s family business. Ken’s work included experience with all aspects of marine service and management, and led to co-ownership of Norton’s in 1995. In addition to Ken’s 27 years in the marine industry, Ken coached Youth Softball, started the Deltaville Swim Team in 1990 and was Head Coach for 8 years, coached Youth Basketball and Softball, is a founding Board Member of Middlesex Family YMCA, serves as Zoar Church Treasurer, and is a member of the Bank of Lancaster Advisory Board. In October of 2000, Ken was awarded a US Coast Guard Public Service Commendation for a successful rescue of a boater and his young son during a ferocious Nor’easter on the Chesapeake Bay. Mike Lynch
Yacht Broker
Mike Lynch has been a broker with NYS for 9 years, joining the company in 2001. He has spent the majority of his professional life in the sales industry, including stints in corporate banking, insurance, and financial services. He received his BSBA in finance from the Walker College of Business at Appalachian State University; Masters in Banking from University of Virginia, and his MBA from Radford University. Jim Lant
Sailboat Charter Manager and Yacht Broker

Jim is the previous owner of Coastal Yacht Sales in Norfolk, VA where he sold power and sailboats. For the last two years Jim has been traveling the country working for a government contracting company in the marine communications field for the Coast Guard and Navy. Jim holds an Associates Degree in Biology and before his passion for sailing took hold he worked in the marine science field working for the Virginia Aquarium taking care of their Live Exhibits. Jim’s hobbies include fishing, diving, and of course sailing. Jim is Norton’s Sailboat Charters manager and joins the brokerage sales team. Jim@nortonyachts.com
Ian Pearce
Service Manager
Ian obtained his undergraduate degree from Cambridge College of Arts and Technology in Cambridge, England. Following a four year apprenticeship along with technical college, he was awarded the National Certificate in Engineering from the Business and Technical Education Council. Ian obtained a Certificate in “Yacht and Small Craft Surveying” from Chapman School of Seamanship, in Stuart, Florida. Ian also earned the ABYC Standards Accreditation Certificate and the ABYC Marine Electrical Technician Certification. Ian achieved Journeyman status in Electrical Studies and continues to further his education in the marine industry. In addition to his marine electrical studies, Ian is a Yanmar Technician, a certified Fischer Panda Generator technician, a certified Northern Lights technician, and a Lugger Diesel technician. Ian has spent decades around boats working and was General Manager of Horn Harbor Marina in Port Haywood, VA.

Ann Perkins
Administrative Assistant, Sailing School Coordinator
Ann was born & raised in Virginia; graduated from Lancaster High School in 1978; attended Princess Anne Business College in Virginia Beach and graduated in 1981. Ann has worked in accounting and customer service for the past 30 years. Ann went to work for Norton’s Yacht Sales in 1998, moved to Florida in 2000 and returned to Virginia in 2004, where she returned to work at Norton’s Yacht Sales. Ann currently lives in beautiful Middlesex County with her husband and two children. Ann says, “My position at Norton’s Yacht Sales gives me great pleasure in assisting our customers to achieve their dreams in the sailing world through taking our ASA Sailing Classes and experiencing the waterways of Virginia through our Sailboat Charter Services.” Ms. Perkins was promoted to Norton Yachts Office Manager in April 2010. Amanda (Mandy) M. Spiller
Service Coordinator
Mandy has worked in customer service for 30+ years in both the industrial and private sectors. Mandy relocated from Richmond, VA to Deltaville in 1987 and has been in the marina service industry for the past 24 years. For the last 12 years, Ms. Spiller has been Assistant and Service Writer for Norton’s Yacht Sales in the Service Department. Mandy’s expertise includes maintaining replacement parts stock, identifying and ordering specialty parts for boats, scheduling service work, computer data reports and customer relations. Mandy’s personal interests include gardening, reading, and boating. Mandy@nortonyachts.com
Bill Cornpropst
Raymarine Electronic Technician
Bill studied electronics at Old Dominion College Technical Institute and then enlisted in the U.S. Air Force. While in the USAF, Bill worked in communication electronics from 1964 to 1974. After the Air Force, Bill worked in electronics for Diebold, Inc. for 15 years. He became manager of Installation and Technical Services for Diebold. Later, Bill took a position with Wachovia Bank as Manager of Corporate Real-Estate until retirement in 2002. Upon retirement, Bill was employed in the field of marine electronics. He joined Norton Yachts in April of 2010 to work as a Certified Ray Marine technician.
A life long sailor, Bill started racing Penguins at age 8. He and his wife Gretchen now enjoy cruising the Chesapeake on their Allmand 35 Pilot House sloop. You may see Bill & Gretchen anchored in many of the popular areas on the Bay. When not sailing or working, Bill enjoys riding his BMW motorcycle; working on their home in Hartfield; and of course working on their boat. Bill@nortonyachts.com
